Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is the most common member of the vinyl group of plastics. PVC sheets have high strength-to-weight ratio and are a good electrical and thermal insulator. Polyvinyl chloride sheets are a self-extinguishing material and are categorized with extremely low water absorption. PVC boards are chemical, acid and abrasion resistant material. Polyvinyl chloride boards are a strong and durable material, which ages slowly. PVC sheet offers excellent corrosion resistance and resistance to outdoor conditions. Rigid PVC has high mechanical strength and toughness, very hard surface, excellent impact strength. PVC sheet is easy to process. The disadvantage of PVC sheets is that the material melts at a lower temperature than other plastics such as polyamide (PA), teflon (PTFE) and polyethylene (HDPE).
